Технология создания веб-сервисов различных типов.
В основе REST лежит принцип, согласно которому каждый URL приводит к уникальному ресурсу и может быть скомбинирован с таким веб-сервисом как XML-RPC. Данные могут возвращаться в форматах XML, PDF, PNG, JPG, SVG.
По мнению аналитиков Burton Group, будущее сервисно-ориентированной архитектуры (SOA) принадлежит технологии REST (Representational State Transfer). В настоящее время эту технологию используют в проектах SOA очень немногие архитекторы и разработчики, но в Burton уверены, что ситуация кардинальным образом изменится в ближайшие 5-10 лет. Привлекательность REST заключается в простоте концепции и возможности наложить определенные ограничения на хаотический мир Web-сервисов, сделав его более структурированным.
