Глагол to frighten наиболее нейтральный глагол этого ряда, не указывающий на силу эмоции или ее источник. Глагол to frighten smb может быть усилен такими сочетаниями, как: to frighten smb to death (out of one's wits, beyond measure, stiff) напугать/испугать кого-либо на смерть (не на шутку, чрезмерно, крайне); to be/to get frightened испугаться.
