В промышл. практике наиб, распространено к. в. при переработке медных и урановых руд. В последние годы применяется также для переработки полиметаллич., в частности свинцово-цинковых руд. Широкое применение в промышл. практике к. в. меди и урана из руд и отвалов получило в США (16 рудников), странах африканского континента, Австралии, Испании и др. В СНГ применяется на Николаевском месторождении (Казахстан) для переработки отвалов забалансовых медноколчедан. руд. Добавл. H2SO4 при выщелачивании здесь сведено к минимуму из-за ее образов, при естеств. окислении пирита. На этом руднике под орошением наход. два отвала объемом до 2,7 млн. т руды.
