2 Tissue
General term for fine muslins or gauze fabrics used for window curtains. It originally denoted very fine silk fabrics used for veils. This had silver and gold thread ornament. Finely woven figured fabric in several colours, the design being made by two or more wefts carried across the full width of the material. In the Middle Ages thin sheets of paper were put between layers of tissue cloth to keep it from tarnishing. This was the first tissue paper. -
