2 Adverbial clause of manner
1) Придаточное предложение, описывающее, как (каким образом) происходит событие. Отвечает на вопросы How? In what way? (как? каким образом?). Вводится обычно союзом as.The water laves the shore as it did a thousand years ago. — Вода омывает берег так же, как и тысячу лет назад.

2) Придаточные образа действия могут также выражать сравнение. Сравнение вводится союзами as if, as though.а) Глагол в придаточном предложении может употребляться в настоящем времени:It is as though I have to wait a time. — Как будто мне следует подождать.
It looks to me as though they're getting ready to blow the Octagon Hotel off the map. — Похоже, что они готовы убрать с карты отель Октагон.
Why is she looking at me as if she knew me? — Почему она смотрит на меня так, как будто знает меня?
в) в формальном и письменном стиле в нереальных сравнениях употребляется форма сослагательного наклонения (Subjunctive):Then he suddenly began talking to her as if she were a little child. — Потом он внезапно заговорил с ней так, как будто она была маленьким ребенком.
3) В разговорной речи в качестве союзов, вводящих придаточное образа действия, иногда выступают слова like, how, however.It seems like it's going to rain. — Похоже, что скоро будет дождь.
