Русское государственная граница может передаваться на английский язык словами boundary, border и frontier. Boundary означает 'граница – демаркационная линия': the boundary between France and Germany. Border, так же как и boundary, может выступать в значении 'демаркационная линия', но наряду с этим служит для обозначения пограничной зоны или полосы, обычно по обе стороны демаркационной линии: the Italian border, to dwell on the borders 'жить в пограничном районе', the river Amur runs along the borders of the Soviet Union and China. Frontier, так же как boundary и border, имеет в виду демаркационную линию, но может вместе с тем обозначать район, полосу или зону (в отличие от border, только по одну сторону от демаркационной линии): France's Italian frontier или Italy's French frontier.
