Употребление термина моральная угроза в литературе не вполне единообразно. The term originates in the insurance literature, which first focused attention on two types of informational imperfections: the "moral hazard" that arises when an insurance company cannot observe whether the insured exerts effort to prevent a loss and the "adverse selection" that occurs when the insured knows more than the company at the time he purchases a policy about his likelihood of an accident.
