В 1997 Министерство юстиции США [ Department of Justice, U.S.] обвинило корпорацию в нарушении антимонопольных соглашений 1995, так как "Майкрософт" заставляла своих пользователей устанавливать Интернет-броузер вместе с операционной системой, получая преимущество над другими производителями броузеров. В 2000 суд постановил разделить корпорацию на две компании, но юристы "Майкрософта" подали апелляцию, и к ноябрю 2001 им удалось договориться с министерством. В качестве инвестора Гейтс финансирует деятельность целого ряда фирм в области высоких технологий. В 1994 основал Фонд Уильяма Гейтса [William H.
