1926El rey de las peliculas de bajo costo e independientes, especialista en el cine de terror, es un incansable productor de mas de 300 filmes, que tambien se prodigo en la direccion. En ese terreno tiene una serie de magnificas peliculas basadas en relatos de Edgar Allan Poe, y otras de casi todos los generos. No fue el western uno de sus preferidos; al menos, no se detuvo mucho tiempo en el. Sin embargo, su debut como director lo hizo con un western, y algunas de sus primeras realizaciones tambien lo fueron; en cualquier caso, cada vez que abordo la direccion de una pelicula del genero, lo hizo con dignidad e, incluso, con brillantez.
