Чилтерновские округа — это округа в графствах Оксфордшир и Бэкингемшир, где в XVII в. было много разбойников. Для борьбы с ними было учреждено Управление чилтерновскими сотнями (Stewardship of the Chiltern Hundreds). По закону 1707 г. управляющий чилтерновской сотней (Steward of the Chiltern Hundreds) не мог быть членом парламента. Управление чилтерновской сотней уже давно упразднено, но существует обычай, по которому член парламента, не скомпрометировавший себя, может сложить полномочия только в том случае, если по личной просьбе он назначен на номинальную должность управляющего чилтерновской сотней.
