Разузнавать, расследовать, узнавать. To suss (без out) сначала было сокращением от глагола to suspect (подозревать):I sussed they didn't know who I was. — Я подозревал, что они не знают, кто я.
Но в 1960-х гг. это значение изменилось и расширилось. Сейчас можно suss out what's happening (узнать, что происходит), suss out who's who (узнать, кто есть кто), suss out why there's a strike (узнать, почему бастуют). -
