Раздел языкознания, исследующий с семиотических (семиотика – наука о знаках и знаковых системах) позиций смыслы и значения единиц языка (слов, предложений и др.), его выражений и логических форм, участвующих в его порождении, построении и изменении. В компьютерном программировании – определяет сущность кодов, команд, сообщений и охватывает совокупность операций, служащих для определения либо кодирования смысла данных.
