Высокомолекулярный антибиотик (C148H185Cl4N21O56), выделяемый из Streptomyces orientalis; механизм действия В. (в основном активен в отношении грам-положительных бактерий) связан с блокированием биосинтеза муреина, входящего в бактериальные клеточные стенки, что сближает В. с пенициллином penicillin и некоторыми др. антибиотиками.* * *Ванкомицин — высокомолекулярный антибиотик, продукт актиномицетов. Действует на синтез клеточной стенки грамположительных бактерий, блокируя синтез муреина.
