    To steal someone's thunder — заимствовать чьи-либо идеи, открытия и т. п. И предать их гласности, выдавая за свои, до того как это сделал их подлинный автор. Это выражение появилось после высказывания критика Джона Денниса (1657—1734) об использовании искусственного грома при постановке «Макбета». Этот сценический эффект был изобретён самим Деннисом для постановки его собственной пьесы «Аппий и Виргиния».
