       Hermano de Gerald Thomas. Empieza en el cine con el honroso oficio de manejar la claqueta en los rodajes. Despues de la Segunda Guerra Mundial empieza a dirigir, contratado por la Rank, y alcanza algunos exitos, particularmente en el terreno de la comedia, dentro del que cabe recordar Un medico en la familia (Doctor in the House, 1954), primera de una serie de tres peliculas, cada una de ellas algo peor que la anterior. El tono desenfadado le va mejor que el so lemne, donde no consigue resultados minimamente aceptables. Eso, el exceso de gratuita solemnidad, es el lastre de este atipico western ambientado en tierras canadienses. Se debe recordar el remake dirigido por Ralph Thomas de Treinta y nueve escalones (The 39 Steps), sin duda una de las mas famosas peliculas del Hitchcock britanico. La pelicula de Thomas, rodada en 1959, es un verdadero desastre.
