Squeaky — писклявый, визгливый, скрипучий. Clean — чистый. Комбинация этих двух слов значит безукоризненный, безупречный. Эта фраза впервые появилась в рекламах шампуня, где волосы после его использования представляли такими чистыми, что даже скрипели, когда их расчёсывали. В 1970-х гг. общественных деятелей (особенно политиков и телевизионных ведущих) стали называть squeaky clean, т. е. нравственными, надёжными, положительными. Хотя и можно считать squeaky clean комплиментом, в некоторых случаях это выражение включает элемент недоверия: too good to be true — слишком хорошо, чтобы быть правдой. -
