1880-1952Personalidad singular la de este australiano trasplantado a Hollywood. Actor y director de algun exito durante el cine mudo, cuando llega el sonoro inicia una huida hacia adelante, dirigiendo febrilmente peliculas de muy bajo presupuesto. Antes de la llegada de la decada de los 40, ha desaparecido de las pantallas. Una de sus ultimas actuaciones, tan mo desta que ni siquiera figura en los titulos de credito, ocurre en La diligencia (Stagecoach, John Ford, 1939), una pelicula de referencia en el mundo del western. Establecer la relacion de las peliculas sonoras del genero dirigidas por McGowan no es tarea facil porque se mueve en la frontera entre el mudo y el sonoro, con peliculas mudas pero con banda musical que, naturalmente, quedan fuera de la presente filmografia.Senor Americano. 1929. 60 minutos.
