Same as Slendangs. ————————SLENDONGS, or PAHONESCotton scarves or shawls made 25-in. to 30-in. wide, 68-in. to 75 -in. long, with fancy headings and fringes at each end. Very similar to sarongs, but narrower. Most of this style of shawl have crammed coloured headings at each end. Common qualities are made with 72 ends and 52 picks per inch, 36's warp, 40's weft, in 25-in. widths. The headings are 3-in. wide, with 120 picks of various colours per inch. -
102 Palenbangs
Same as Sarongs, but woven in different lengths and headings. Plain weave cotton fabrics worn as loin cloths or scarves in India. -
103 Rumal Andijani
A very soft, thin silk fabric, made in Turkestan and used for scarves and kerchiefs in India during the 17th century. -
104 Safa
Fine cotton cloth made in the Punjab for use as a head-dress. There are headings at each end, dyed in fancy shades, and coloured silk and gold threads are used for decoration. The yarns are about 60's to 90's and set about 80 ends and 100 picks per inch. Used also as scarves by the natives. -
105 Sapoit
A cotton fabric, made about 60 ends and 48 picks per inch, 30's warp, 42's weft. It has a coloured border both in warp and weft to cut into scarves. The centre is checked. -
106 Sarong
A cotton cloth, plain weave, with brilliant coloured stripes down the piece. Used in the East as scarves or loin cloths. Made with fancy headings at each end of the piece, which varies from 5 yards to 7 yards in length. The colours are fast to washing and light. Made about 60 to 66 ends and 44 to 50 picks per inch, 40's warp, 30's to 40's weft. The more recent designs are broad black and white stripes with a capella heading 18-in. wide, stiff finished. Width about 24-in. -
107 Shetland Point Lace
A needle-made lace, produced in Italy from fine Shetland wool for babies' shawls, scarves and other articles that require to be light, but warm.
