Система чисел или иных элементов, принятых для оценки или измерения каких-либо величин. Ш. в кибернетике и общей теории систем используются для оценки и выявления связей и отношений между элементами систем. Особенно широко их применение для оценки величин, выступающих в роли критериев качества функционирования систем, в частности, критериев оптимальности при решении экономико-математических задач. Различают Ш. номинальные (назывные, классификационные), порядковые (ранговые) и количественные (метрические). Номинальная Ш. (nominal scale) основывается на том, что объектам присваиваются какие-то признаки, и они классифицируются по наличию или отсутствию определенного признака. Например, если признак может быть или не быть у данного объекта, то говорят о переменной с двумя значениями. Так, переменная «пол» дает два класса (мужской, женский). Если обозначить один из них нулем, а другой — единицей, то можно подсчитывать частоту появления 1 или 0 и проводить дальнейшие статистические процедуры. Порядковая Ш. (ordinal scale) соответствует более высокому уровню шкалирования. Она предусматривает сопоставление интенсивности определяемого признака у изучаемых объектов (т.е. располагает их по признаку «больше-меньше», но без указания, насколько больше или насколько меньше). Порядковые Ш. широко используются при анализе предпочтений (отсюда термин «Ш. предпочтений«) в различных областях экономики, но прежде всего в анализе спроса и потребления. Изучаемые объекты можно обозначить порядковыми числительными (первый, второй, третий), подвергая их любым монотонным преобразованиям (например, возведению в степень, извлечению корня), поскольку первоначальный порядок этим не затрагивается. Порядковую Ш. также называют ранговой Ш., а место объектов в последовательности, которую она собой представляет — рангом объекта. При¬мер порядковой Ш. — система балльных оценок (школьные оценки, оценки качества продукции и т.д.). Количественные, или метрические Ш. (cardinal, metric scale) подразделяются на два вида: интервальные и пропорциональные. Первые из них, обладая всеми качествами порядковой Ш., отличаются от нее тем, что точно определяют величину интервала между точками на Ш. в принятых единицах измерения. Равновеликость интервалов при этом не требуется. Но она появляется в следующем самом совершенном виде шкал — пропорциональной Ш. Здесь подразумевается фиксированная нулевая точка отсчета, поэтому пропорциональная Ш. позволяет выяснить, во сколько раз один признак объекта больше или меньше другого. С оценками, измеряющими признаки в метрической Ш., можно производить разные действия: сложение, умножение, деление. Такие Ш. — основа всевозможных статистических операций. Пример показателя, выраженного в метрической Ш., — объем продукции определенного вида в каких-то единицах измерения. Как порядковое, так и метрическое шкалирование экономических величин существенно затрудняется многомерностью их характеристик (см.Измерение экономических величин).
