Репликация - механизм асинхронного внесения изменений, например распространения обновлений, во вторичные БД непосредственно после завершения транзакции по мере появления возможности доступа к серверной или клиентской БД. Метод предполагает промежуточное хранение транзакций. Обеспечивает синхронизацию (согласованность) фрагментов распределённой базы данных. Например, изображение с разрешением 360 х 240 пикселов можно воспроизводить в формате 720 x 480, если продублировать каждый пиксел каждой строки, а затем каждую строку; при этом изображение будет содержать блоки из четырёх одинаковых пикселов и может возникнуть артефакт блочности (blockiness).
