L'animateur pose des questions valant 10 points aux deux équipes. L'équipe qui appuie la première sur le bouton et donne la bonne réponse a le droit de répondre à trois autres questions, valant cinq points chacune. La première question donnant droit aux trois suivantes s'appelle starter for ten ("première question pour 10 points"). On utilise cette formule sur le mode humoristique par allusion au jeu lorsqu'on pose une question difficile à quelqu'un, comme dans l'exemple suivant: OK, cleverclogs, here's your starter for ten: why do... ("puisque tu es si malin que ça, essaie de répondre à cette question: pourquoi est-ce que...").
