  • 1 CUAUHAMATL

    cuauhâmatl:
    Papier brut.
    Angl., coarse paper.
Vendu par le marchand de papier, âmanâmacac. Sah10,78.
Allem., einheimisches (Rindenbast-) Papier. U.Dyckerhoff 1970,188.
    Note: CMex = Tezozomoc 1878.
" iztac cuauhâmatl ", papier blanc fait à partir d'écorce d'arbre - white paper made of the bark of trees. Sah8,68.
Quaoamatl: Cf. von Hagen op.cit.p.60.'coarse, thickly-fibered paper. more difficult to fashion than the fig tree variety; product of Acacia cornigera ('bulls, horn acacia'). The bark is used. SGA II Pt 3-4 p.59 refers to it as 'papel de la tierra' (citing Tezozomoc); in Fr. Editorial Pedro Robredo 19389, V (Appendix) p. 213 (quauhamatl or texamatl), he attributes it to paper made from the bark of some 'ficus' trees; and in 'L'orfèvrerie' p. 431 he calls it bark paper. In Sahagun (Garibay ed.) III 83, it is 'papel de amate'. Anders Dib IX 93 note 4.
" auh in ihcuâc ômocencâuh in ônohuiyan mihcuiloh ichcatl in ahtle ômolcauh, în ixquich ic tlatlalilli machiyôtl: niman ic îpan onmozaloa ce amatl, cuauhâmatl, ic mocenhuapâhua ic chicâhua in ichcatlahuapâhualli ", and when finished, when the cotton was painted all over, when nothing of all the completed pattern had been forgotten, then (the cotton) was glued on a piece of paper, coarse paper, so that (this) reinforced cotton was completely strengthened. so that it was given support. Sah9,93.
