The glass steel and concrete building, designed by the Richard Rogers partnership, and opened in 1977, is one of the most remarkable examples of 1970's architecture. It is distinguished by having most of its service infrastucture (lifts, escalators, utility ducts) on the outside of the building.In May 2010, a satellite of the Pompidou Centre opened in the city of Metz, in Lorraine.
