  • 2 poncho

(Sp. model spelled same [ponfo], of uncertain origin, perhaps from the Spanish adjective poncho, a variant of pocho 'discolored')
A cloak consisting of a blanket (or more recently a square piece of oiled cloth, rubber, or nylon) with a hole in the middle for the head to fit through. The DRAE describes it as a square or rectangular blanket made from sheep wool, alpaca, vicuña, or any other woven material, with an opening in the center for the head. The garment covers the shoulders and generally hangs to the waist or lower.
        Alternate form: ponchar.
