43 Ageing
A process used in dyeing and consists of letting a cloth lie or. hang loosely and exposed to the air in an ageing machine. In these machines air enters near the floor and when saturated is removed by means of ventilators. Ageing was chiefly employed by bleachers for the removal of any chlorine remaining in the cloth by oxidation but is now used in many branches of finishing. ———————— Storing of alkali cellulose for the required period, which varies according to the nature of the spinning process. -
44 Bronnert Silk
Artificial silk made from a zinc chloride solution of cellulose. A process that has not yet developed very far. This term is wrongly applied as the yarn is actually rayon. -
45 Crumbs
In the rayon industry this term refers to the very finely divided particles of cellulose as produced by the machine known as the shredder or disintegrator. -
46 Cuprammonium
A type of rayon produced from a solution of cellulose in ammoniacal copper oxide. It is spun by two distinct methods: (1) Direct spinning wherein no tension is applied during coagulation; and (2) stretch spinning, wherein there is applied during coagulation sufficient tension to draw out the filaments to the required fineness. -
47 Pauly
Rayon manufactured by dissolving cellulose in Schweitzer's solution. It is not so lustrous as some rayons, and when wet is rather weak. -
48 Transparent Film Fibres
The transparent cellulose paper used for wrapping food-stuffs and other articles is identical in constitution with viscose rayon, and is prepared in the same way up to the point of spinning in which it is extruded- through a wide and exceedingly fine slit and is coagulated in continuous sheet form. For textile uses the sheet is cut up into very narrow strips as small as 1/80-in. wide when used alone for effect threads or twisted with another thread, and as fine as 1/100-in. wide when reduced to. staple fibre form and mixed with other fibres prior to spinning.Dictionary of the English textile terms > Transparent Film Fibres
