The standard measure for the drap de raye of striped cloth, according to the statute of Edward III was 27 yards in length and six quarters and a half in breadth. Ray or striped cloth was much worn in the 13th and 14th centuries (originally warp strips of wool, but under Edward II weft stripes). First made in Flanders. -
