РЗМ
Группа РЗМ включает Sc, Y, La и лантаноиды (редкие земли) — 14 элементов III группы Периодич. системы с ат. н. от 58 (Се) до 71 (Lu). РЗМ отличаются высокой химич. активностью и образуют прочные оксиды, галогениды, сульфиды, реагируют с водородом, углеродом, углеводородами, СО и СO2, азотом, фосфором. РЗМ разлагают воду (медленно на холоде, быстрее при нагревании) и легко р-ряются в кислотах: НСl, H2SO4 и HNO3. При темп-pax выше 180-200 °С РЗМ быстро окисляются на воздухе. Присадки РЗМ применяют в кач-ве раскислителей и модификаторов в произ-ве стали, чугуна и сплавов цв. металлов. Для этих целей гл. обр. используют ферроцерий или сплав лантаноидов (мишметалл) с преобладающим содержанием Се или Се и La. Стекольная пром-ть — тж. одна из крупных потребит. РЗМ. Стекло с добавкой 2—4 % Се2О3 используют для защитных очков при стеклодувных и сварочных работах, так как оно не пропускает ультрафиолет. лучи. Стекло, содержащее Се, устойчиво (не тускнеет) под действием радиоакт. излучений. Оксиды нек-рых лантаноидов используют в произ-ве оптич. стекла, а тж. для обесцвечивания стекла и его окраски. Оксиды лантаноидов применяют в оптич. пром-ти в кач-ве абразива для полировки стекла. Для этой цели используют СеО2 («полирит») в виде порошков разной крупности.
