9 Pushing
A term in the print trade which signifies that the colour used in such fabrics as cretonnes is " pushed " through the cloth by exerting heavy pressure on the rollers in the printing machine. The colours for this purpose are thickened with gum tragacanth in place of the usual thickeners. The colours have a tendency to " flush " at the edges of the pattern which seldom matters in cretonnes. -
