    WAYS OF DOING THINGS:
Глагол to bend дает общее название действия - "сгибать, гнуть, гнуться" и не указывает ни на то что или кто это действие производит, ни на то, как это действие производится. Для уточнения характера, субъекта, цели сгибания глагол to bend требует уточняющих сочетаний, как например: to bend down - наклоняться, to bend over smb, smth - склоняться над чем-либо, кем-либо. К таким глаголам относятся: to fold, to twist, to stoop, to crouch, to curl up, to flex, to warp, to buckle, to bow.
Глагол to fold обозначает согнуть под углом, сложить, загнуть; to fold the corner of the page загнуть угол страницы; to fold one's arms on the chest сложить руки на груди; to fold a letter (a shirt) сложить письмо (рубашку).
Глагол to twist означает сгибать, поворачивая или сгибаться, поворачиваясь несколько раз - крутить, скручивать, извиваться, виться змейкой: to twist one's ankle подвернуть ногу; smb's belt has twisted у кого-то ремень перекрутился; to twist a thread (rope) скрутить нитку (веревку); she twisted her handkerchief nervously она нервно вертела платочек.
Глагол to stoop обозначает нагнуться, пригнуться для того, чтобы что-либо поднять или сделать что-либо, чему мешает большой рост, а затем опять выпрямиться: to stoop to pick up a handkerchief нагнуться чтобы поднять платок; he had to stoop to get into the car ему пришлось пригнуться, чтобы сесть в машину; don't stoop, sit straight не горбись/не сутулься, сиди прямо; she stooped and patted the little dog она наклонилась и нежно потрепала собачку.
Глагол to crouch описывает такое положение согнутого тела, которое позволяет спрятаться или казаться меньше ростом, или быть готовым к прыжку - присесть, пригнуться, присесть на корточки: there were six people crouching round the camp fire вокруг костра сидело шесть человек; the old lady crouched before the fire-plac старушка присела у камина/у камелька; the tiger crouched ready to spring тигр весь напрягся, готовясь к прыжку.
Глагол to curl up - "свернуться комочком/калачиком, т. е. сидя или лежа, прижав согнутые в локтях руки и ноги, согнутые в коленях, к телу так, чтобы почувствовать тепло, уют, комфорт": I was so tired all I wanted to do was to currl up in the armchair and watch TV я так устал, что хотел только устроиться уютно в кресле и смотреть телевизор; the cat curled up on the carpet кот свернулся клубочком на ковре.
Глагол to flex обозначает сгибать и разгибать: he stood up flexed his powerful shoulders and pulled on his coat он встал, подвигал могучими плечами, чтобы размяться, и надел пиджак; the babies' natural position is with their two arms bent in the elbows and their legs flexed естественное положение младенца, с руками, согнутыми в локтях, и ногами, двигающимися вверх и вниз.
Глагол to warp обозначает потерять форму, прогнуться, покоробиться под влиянием высокой температуры или нажима: the door is warped and it won't close properly дверь покосилась и плохо закрывается; as the planks dry may out they warp slightly когда доски высыхают они слегка прогибаются или коробятся.
Глагол to bow и сочетание to make a bow в значении "поклониться, отвесить поклон" описывают действие наклона или сгибания тела до пояса или наклона головы вперед в знак благодарности, согласия, разрешения: he stood up, bowed and left the room он встал, поклонился и вышел из комнаты
