Broadly there are six styles of fabric printing, viz.: - Direct Printing - That in which the design is printed direct on the cloth and the colour afterwards fixed by steaming. Dyed Styles - The fabric is first printed with a mordant and afterwards dyed in a mordant dye. Another method is to treat the cloth with a mordant throughout and then print with an acid which discharges the mordant where desired, leaving white where acid was printed. 4 Block Printing
A process of printing fabrics by hand with the aid of wooden blocks. The pattern is either engraved on the wood or built up by means of copper wire. The cloth is stretched over a firm level table, generally of stone, and the block dipped into colour and then impressed upon the cloth. Each colour requires a separate block. -
