    Первый в истории США вооруженный конфликт белых поселенцев с индейцами. Произошел в Новой Англии в 1636-37. Поселенцы жили в постоянном страхе перед своими соседями - воинственными пекотами [ Pequot]. В 1636 поселенцы обвинили пекотов в убийстве белого торговца и после отказа последних выдать предполагаемого убийцу сожгли деревню пекотов. Пекотский вождь Сассакус [Chief Sassacus] стал собирать воинов для нападения на поселенцев. Однако у пекотов было немало противников среди соседних племен. Вождь родственных им могикан [ Mohegan] Ункас [ Uncas] встал на сторону поселенцев. В мае 1637 отряд поселенцев с союзными индейцами напал на главное поселение пекотов на р. Мистик [Mystic River] и сжег его дотла вместе с обитателями (600-700 человек). Пуританский историк К. Мэзер [ Mather, Cotton] позднее писал, что поселенцы рассматривали это событие как "богоугодная жертва... во славу Господа" ["a sweet sacrifice... gave the praise thereof of God"]. Часть оставшихся пекотов была поймана и продана в рабство на Бермуды, а оставшаяся часть расселена среди враждебных пекотам индейских племен. Позднее, в 1655, для оставшихся пекотов были созданы две резервации в долине р. Мистик
