1 Pouncing
The term applied to the operation of dusting powdered charcoal on to cloth through a perforated paper pattern. A black dye (tannin and acetate of iron) was then painted over the charcoal tracing. This method of decorating fabric was carried on in India in the early 18th century and some of the original paper patterns can be seen in the Department of Engravings in the British Museum. -
