εἰρωνεία, ας, ἡ (Pla. et al.; 2 Macc 13:3) ‘affected ignorance’ used to discomfit an opponent in debate by saying less than one thinks (Pla., Rep. 337a et al.) then pretense, posturing (cp. Aristot.
