Créée en 1980, la société britannique Psion (devenue Psion Texlogix) lance dès 1984 le Psion Organiser, vétéran des agendas électroniques. Au fil des ans, la gamme des Psion s’étend et la société se développe à l’international. En 2000, les différents modèles de Psion (Série 7, Série 5MX, Revo, Revo Plus) permettent de lire des livres numériques. Les modèles de Psion sont ensuite concurrencés par les PDA (personal digital assistants) des gammes Palm et Pocket PC, et les ventes baissent. La société décide de diversifier ses activités. Issu du rachat de Teklogix par Psion en septembre 2000, Psion Teklogix développe des systèmes informatiques mobiles sans fil à destination des entreprises. En 2001, une deuxième branche, Psion Software, développe les logiciels de la nouvelle génération d’appareils mobiles utilisant la plateforme Symbian OS, par exemple ceux du smartphone Nokia 9210, modèle précurseur commercialisé la même année.
