Глаголу показывать соответствуют английские show, exhibit и display. Show может обозначать любой вид показа: показывать город гостю – to show the city to a guest, показывать зубы в улыбке – to show one's teeth in a smile. Exhibit и display имеют значение 'выставлять для публичного обозрения' и могут взаимозаменяться: показывать товар – to exhibit goods и to display goods, показывать (выставлять) картины в картинной галерее – to display pictures at a picture-gallery и to exhibit pictures at a picture-gallery.
