(Lebensmittel, w. vgl.). – pabulum. pastus (Futter für die Tiere; dann uneig., z.B. pab. animi ingeniique; past. animi). – victus (der Inbegriff dessen, was der Mensch zur Erhaltung bedarf u. genießt). – N. u. Kleidung, victus vestitusque; victus et cultus: des Leibes N. u. Notdurft, usus vitae necessarii; quae ad vivendum homini necessaria sunt; quae ad vitae usum pertinent. – N. zu sich nehmen, cibum sumere od. assumere; cibum capere: wenig N. zu sich nehmen, non mul ti esse cibi: sehr wenig, minimi esse cibi: viel, multi esse cibi; edacem esse: schon seit fünf Tagen keine N. zu sich genommen haben, diem iam quintum cibo caruisse: N. suchen, pastum anquirere (von Tieren); victum quaerere (von Menschen, der Nahrung, dem Unterhalt [1761] nachgehen): jmdm. od. einer Sache N. geben, s. nähren: die Ankunft des Attalus gab den Gerüchten noch mehr N., addidit alimenta rumoribus adventus Attali. – III) das, was Mittel zur Nahrung gibt, Verdienst, Gewerbe: quaestus (z.B. sehr einträgliche, uberrimus). – Mangel an N., inopia quaestus: die N. liegt in einer Stadt danieder, inopia quaestus est in alqa urbe.
