Эта фраза пришла из игры в пул (разновидность бильярда), когда все шары должны быть загнаны в лузу в определённом порядке, за исключением чёрного шара, который идёт под номером восемь и называется the eight ball. Если какой-либо другой шар коснётся восьмёрки, то игрок подвергается штрафу.
