•• Agnostic a person who believes that nothing can be known about the existence of God (Oxford American Dictionary).
•• Американцы употребляют это слово без особых комментариев, а в переводе на русский без них часто не обойтись. Дело в том, что agnostic – это не последователь философского учения (как в русском слове агностик), а просто человек, не являющийся ни верующим, ни атеистом (по-английски atheist – это убежденный безбожник, а не просто человек, не посещающий церковь, т.е. not a practicing believer). Итак, agnostic – это человек, который на вопрос «Есть ли Бог?» отвечает «Не знаю».
