Озеро в системе Великих озер [ Great Lakes], нижняя ступень каскада. Расположено на высоте 75 м над уровнем моря. Площадь 19,5 тыс. кв. км, глубина до 237 м. Из озера вытекает р. Св. Лаврентия [ St. Lawrence River]. Юго-восточная часть озера принадлежит США, северо-западная - Канаде. Через Грузовые каналы штата Нью-Йорк [ New York State Barge Canal] связано с р.
