Процедура, принятая в том случае, если обязательства по векселю (bill of exchange) не выполняются в результате отказа от акцептирования или оплаты. Не позже, чем в следующий рабочий день после дня отказа от оплаты векселя, его держатель должен передать вексель государственному нотариусу (notary public) для опротестования. Нотариус снова предъявляет вексель; если вексель не принимается или не оплачивается, нотариус фиксирует все обстоятельства в журнале записей и на нотариальной квитанции (notarial ticket), которую он прикрепляет к векселю. После этого нотариальная процедура в случае необходимости может перейти в опротестование (protest).
