    Penalty assessed to hockey players who deliberately injure an opponent, or an official, or attempt to injure them. If the goalkeeper receives a match penalty, another player serves the time. A player who receives a match penalty is ejected: he goes to the penalty box to serve a five minute major penalty during which he may not be substituted for on ice.
