= coax cable; = coaxial; = coaxодна из трёх основных групп кабелей, используемых в компьютерных сетях в качестве среды передачи данных. Простейший кабель состоит из центральной медной жилы (core), по которой передаётся сигнал, пластиковой изоляции (insulation layer), её окружающей, экрана (shield) в виде металлической оплётки и внешней оболочки (т. е. проводники расположены концентрически, коаксиально. Отсюда и происходит название кабеля). Существует два типа коаксиальных кабелей - с модулируемой и немодулируемой передачей, соответственно толстый (thick) и тонкий (thin) кабель. Тонкий гибкий имеет диаметр около 0,5 см, волновое сопротивление 50 Ом. Диаметр толстого жёсткого кабеля около одного сантиметра, сопротивление 70 Ом. Сигналы посылаются по кабелю в виде импульсов постоянного тока.
