в общем обширн. см. обозначает всякое юридическое действие (negotium), которое совершилось торжественным образом в присутствии свидетелей, per aes et libram, quodcunque per aes et libram geritur;nexum aes = pecunia, quae per nexum obligatur; особ. обоз. по древн. p. праву торжественный денежный заем, заключенный per aes et libram, причем должник отдавал себя самого в залог кредитору и этим прямо делался ответственным (nexu vinctus) своим собственным телом, все равно как если бы он был приговорен судьей к уплате долга. Взыскание долга прямо обращалось на личность должника с неумолимой строгостью (Festus s. v. nexum. Varro de 1. lat. VI, 5);
