I modsætning til den traditionelle floating rate note, hvor renten for den enkelte renteperiode (1, 3 eller 6 måneder) fastsættes automatisk i overensstemmelse med en på forhånd fastlagt formel som et tillæg til den aftalte referencerente, f.eks. LIBOR, aftaler udsteder og lead manager under en VRN en ny margin over referencerenten for hver ny renteperiode, typisk 3 måneder, afhængig af udsteders aktuelle kreditmæssige status og de gældende markedsvilkår. -
