תַּרְוָד, תַּרְוָודm. (Syr. תרודא = תְּרֵי יָד) spoon (pointed on top and curved at the end; v. Sm. Ant. s. v. Cochlear). Naz.VII, 2 (49b) מלא ת׳ רקב (Y. ed. Tosef.Keth.III, 5 יום הכפורים הרי הוא כשבת לת׳ the Day of Atonement is like the Sabbath with regard to indemnification; Keth.30a מה שבת … ופטור מן הת׳וכ׳ as he who does forbidden labor on the Sabbath forfeits his life, and is exempt from indemnity (if he did damage through his labor), so he Sifra Emor Par. 14, ch. XX (ref. to Lev. 24:21) מה מכה בהמה בת׳ אף … בת׳ as he who injures an animal pays damages, so he who injures a man has to pay an indemnity for the injured limb. Y. B.
