Оценка будущего развития экономики, научно-технического прогресса, социальных изменений в обществе в долгосрочном периоде. В экономико-математических прогнозах эти стороны развития рассматриваются в единстве. Д.п. обычно относится к периоду в 10 - 15 лет, однако есть и так называемые сверхдолгосрочные прогнозы, или, правильнее, дальнесрочные, охватывающие существенно большие промежутки времени. Они, например, относятся к энергетике, градостроительству, лесному хозяйству, к состоянию природной среды. Как правило, подобные прогнозы существенно менее детализированы, чем кратко- и среднесрочные, в них шире применяются вероятностные оценки (см. Вероятность), а часто — и качественные суждения. Строятся научно-технические, социально-экономические и демографические прогнозы, каждый из которых объединяет и взаимоувязывает результаты многих частных прогнозов: развития тех или иных отраслей техники, производства товаров народного потребления, совершенствования экономического механизма и др. Основные методы прогнозирования в экономике, включая долгосрочное, приводятся в статье Прогнозирование.
