Si langle en què una antena pot captar o radiar les ones és estret (també anomenat feix dantena o obertura), es parla dantenes directives; mentre que les que poden treballar en totes les direccions reben el nom dantenes omnidireccionals. El diagrama de radiació indica els nivells de potència que pot captar o transmetre una antena segons els angles en què incideixen les ones. La longitud duna antena és inversament proporcional a la freqüència de treball. Les més clàssiques són els monopols i el dipols, si bé les comunicacions per satèl·lit i els radioenllaços han fet proliferar les antenes parabòliques, molt més directives. Un monopol consisteix en un únic fil situat sobre un pla de massa que actua a manera de mirall elèctric, i presenta un comportament similar al de l'antena tipus dipol; la diferència rau en el fet que la directivitat és el doble, mentre que la potència radiada és la meitat que en el cas del dipol. Les antenes convencionals de televisió són de tipus Yagi, formades per diversos elements paral·lels que fan de directors del feix dones electromagnètiques, i daltres que fan de reflectors i estan darrere dun dipol; el seu objectiu és aconseguir un bon guany dantena (nivell del senyal captat) en una determinada direcció. Exemples daltres tipus dantenes són les logoperiòdiques, que són antenes de banda ampla que acostumen a consistir en una bateria de dipols disposats de forma que totes les seves longituds varien segons la distància a l'origen, i les longituds i distàncies entre dipols es relacionen per un mateix factor d'escala. Amb aquest tipus d'antena és possible obtenir amples de banda de 300 MHz a 1 GHz. Les antenes impreses sobre un substrat dielèctric són adequades per a la formació d'agrupaments d'antenes i per configurar d'una manera senzilla un determinat diagrama de radiació. La cara inferior de les antenes està totalment metal·litzada per formar el pla de massa, mentre que la cara superior només té metal·litzada la forma de l'element radiant. | ESPORT:VOLEIBOL antena.
