    Ингольштадт, город в федеральной земле Бавария. Расположен в долине Дуная, у южной оконечности горной гряды Франконский Альб. Основные отрасли промышленности: автомобилестроение, машиностроение, нефтепереработка, электротехника. Предприятия сосредоточены в окраинных районах, образовавшихся после сноса крепостных стен (с 1945 г.). Старый город (пешеходная зона) с многочисленными старинными постройками большей частью окружён средневековой оборонительной стеной. В 1472 г. герцог Людвиг Богатый (Ludwig der Reiche) основал в Ингольштадте первый в Баварии университет, который в XVI в. был одним из центров контрреформации. В 1800 г. университет переведён в город Ландсхут (Landshut). В 1990-е гг. территория по обеим сторонам Дуная была обустроена для земельной садовой выставки 1992 г. (Landesgartenschau 1992). При этом в ландшафт местности органично включили сохранившиеся бастионы от крепостных укреплений, возведённых в XIX в. придворным архитектором Лео фон Кленце (Leo von Klenze, 1784-1864).
