13 ἀπαρίνη
ἀπαρίνη (ῑ)Grammatical information: f.Meaning: the plant `cleavers, Gallium aparine' (Thphr.)Origin: PG [a word of Pre-Greek origin]Etymology: Unknown. André Latomus 15 (1956) 295 connects ἀρήν (?). 14 ἰκμάς
ἰκμάς, - άδοςGrammatical information: f.Meaning: `wetness, moisture, secretion' (Ρ 392, Hdt.).Compounds: As 2. member (transformed to an ο-stems) ἄν-, ἔν-, δύσ-ικμος (Hp., Arist.), as 1. member in ἰκμό-βωλον n. `moist clump of earth' (Dsc.; on the ntr. cf. zu διόσπυρον).Derivatives: ἰκμαδώδης (H. s. ἴκμενος), ἰκματώδης (Ach. Tat.; after αἱματώδης) `moist'; also ἰκμαῖος (A. R.), ἴκμιος (Call.), ἰκμώδης (sch.), ἰκμαλέος (Hp., Opp.; Debrunner IF 23, 8); ἰκμαίνω `moisten' (A. R.). ἴκμαρ νοτίς H. Here also the backformation ἴκμη `duckweed, Lemna minor' (Thphr.; diff. on the formation Strömberg Pflanzennamen 113); also Ίκμάλιος τ 57?; speculations by Lacroix Coll. Latomus 28, 309ff.Etymology: Formation in - άδ- like νιφάς a. o. (Schwyzer 507f., Chantr. Form. 349ff.), from an μ-stem; that this would have left traces in most derivv. ( ἰκμαῖος etc.), is improbable. A primary aorist perh. retained in ἷξαι διηθῆσαι H.; outside Greek there are several relatives, e. g. Skt. siñcáti `pour out' (nasal-present), Germ., e. g. OHG sīhan ` seihen', OCS sьčati `urinate' (iterative). But the reconstruction * seikʷ- does no work in Greek: one does not expect ἰκμ-, nor ἶξαι; Germanic has forms with * seik-. More forms Pok. 893, W.-Hofmann s. siat.Page in Frisk: 1,717Greek-English etymological dictionary (Ελληνικά-Αγγλικά ετυμολογική λεξικό) > ἰκμάς

15 κακκάβη 1
κακκάβη 1.Grammatical information: f.Derivatives: Dimin. κακ(κ)άβι(ο)ν (Eub., pap.).Origin: PG [a word of Pre-Greek origin]X [probably]Etymology: - Technical LW [loanword] of unknown origin (Semitic?; cf. Akkad. kukubu; Lewy Glotta 16, 137 and Grimme Glotta 14, 19); rejected by E. Masson, Emprunts sémit. 83-83, but again defended by Szemerényi IF 73 (1968) 194f. In the meaning `kettle' it could be a metaphor of `partridge', Hemmerdinger Glotta 48 (1970) 53. From Greek Lat. cac(c)abus, dimin. cac(c)abulus (= κακουβαλουμ in Ps.-Dsc.; Andre Latomus 14, 518). Cf. W.-Hofmann s. cac(c)abus. - The word could well be Pre-Greek (seen the variations) and Lat. cascabus `cacabus grandis' (Gloss.), cited by Fur. 298.Page in Frisk: 1,757-758Greek-English etymological dictionary (Ελληνικά-Αγγλικά ετυμολογική λεξικό) > κακκάβη 1

17 σίναπι
Grammatical information: ν.Meaning: `mustard, mustard plaster'. Can be found in late Lat. senpecta; s. Svennung Riv. fil. class. 95, 65 ff.Compounds: A comp. is *σιναπο-πηκτη.Derivatives: σινάπιον (EM, gloss.), - ίδιον (Alex. Trall.), - ινος `of mustard' (Dsc., Gal.), - ηρός `spiced with mustard' (pap.). - ίζω `apply a mustard plaster' with - ισμός (medic.).Origin: PG [a word of Pre-Greek origin]Etymology: Comparable variants are found in words of Egyptian origin ( σίλι: σέσελι, σάρι: σίσαρον), so the word has been thought to be of Egypt. origin (Hehn Kulturpflanzen 211, André Latomus 15, 296ff; rejected by Mayrhofer Sprache 7, 185ff.) Against the theory of Austro-Asiatic origin Kretschmer Glotta 27, 249f and Wüst Ρῆμα 2, 59ff, Anthropos 54 (1959) 987f. On the Greek forms Björck Alpha impurum 289f. The word can be found in late Lat. senpecta; s. Svennung Riv. fil. class. 95, 65 ff. Lat. LW [loanword] nāpus `turnip' (Plin.) and sinapi(s) `mustard'; from the last Goth. sina(s) , OHG senf etc. -- The form clearly goes back to a Pre-Greek *synāpi with palatalized s; this may develop before consonant into σι (cf. κνώψ: κινώπετον, λασιτός: λάσται) cf. Beekes FS Kortlandt). If an i was not introduced, * sn- would have normally developed to ν- in Greek (cf. νεῦρον), but the σ- might have been retained, giving *σναπυ.See also: s. νᾶπυ.Page in Frisk: 2,708Greek-English etymological dictionary (Ελληνικά-Αγγλικά ετυμολογική λεξικό) > σίναπι
