1911Procedente del teatro, donde trabaja como bailarin y cantante, se incorpora a Hollywood a finales de los 40, dando el salto a la direccion a comienzos de la decada siguiente. Ejemplo de profesional honrado y de cierta calidad, su filmografia, no demasiado extensa, es modelica. Capaz de revalorizar cualquier guion que se pusiera a su cuidado, solo estropea un poco su intachable carrera como director en los ultimos tiempos, en que tal vez la influencia de la television, tal vez cierta fatiga creativa, le reducen a la condicion de director rutinario. Hombre de Univer sal, siempre se recordaran la modelica Atraco sin huellas (Six Bridges to Cross, 1955) y El hombre de las mil caras (Man of a Thousand Faces, 1957), biopic de indudable calidad, con un histrionico pero estupendo James Cagney.
